Photry – Your Photos in the Cloud
I’m sure that you have gone through a hard drive crash at some point. I know that I have and quite a few of my friends have too. Kind of funny thing here is that from the feedback we got while first presenting this idea to some of our closest friends was that most of them miss their photos a lot more than work documents or music that’s stored on their hard drive.
You could say that photos are like memories from happier days or just special events in your life. We took that knowledge and turned it into something intuitive and beautiful (argue me if you can). Something that will make your life easier if you have tens of gigabytes of photos stored on your hard drive. Photos you don’t ever want to lose.
But there are other ways too
Sure, there are tens of photo sharing sites out there. You can share your photos on Facebook, Flickr and on quite a few other sites. Some of them are good, some are better. Photry is different (from what we know). It’s not so much a photo sharing service than a photo backup solution with a bit of sharing included.
The idea to create Photry came from my own simple need. I wanted to store my photos offsite from my home computer but also share some of them with my family and friends. At the same time I didn’t really like the user interface or functionality of the sites (Facebook was not an option) or applications currently available. Gallery2 or Coppermine, you say? No thanks. Neither of them was what I was really looking for. I doubt you like them either.
What I love about Photry
For me the most important feature on Photry is the possibility to securely backup all my photos to the cloud. At the same time it allows me to share the albums or photos with my closest friends and family. We call it “private sharing” because unlike some other services we actually prefer to make sure that the photos are not available to the whole universe by default. In fact, there is no public facing side for your albums. So unless you give someone access to your photos, they don’t even know that these photos exist. Sounds good, right?
So don’t hold back and just go see for yourself. I hope that you’ll love Photry as much as we do and will enjoy what we’ve done with it. If you have any questions or feedback then please leave a comment or write us and we’ll get back to you.
